Happy October 5th! Fall is officially here and I am 100% here for it. Who’s ready to start planning their 2021 weddings? Starting with wedding day photos!
Today also happens to be my anniversary, so it’s safe to say this post was written in advance 😉 . For those of you who are new around here, you can check out this blog post about how I make sure that quality time with my husband remains a top priority. It’s actually my #1 wedding lesson after (now 6!) amazing years together.
I could probably go on and on about this so to avoid being too sentimental (read: mushy), if you are interested you can read about our love story here. Its’ also one of my favourite things to ask my Edmonton wedding photography couples! If you have a super cute love story, make sure to DM me on instagram and share!
In the interest of wedding day reflections, I thought I would put together a roundup of my favourite moments. Although you don’t need to go overboard when making a wedding day shot list, here are a few moments that you may want to include. As a wedding photographer, I don’t want to manufacture moments on your wedding day. I love to capture the “standard” photos, of course, but I have tried to include a few more moments that I think don’t get nearly the attention they deserve.
First Look with Parents
Is there anything sweeter than when a dad sees his daughter for the first time as a bride? I don’t think so. These can be planned or unplanned but either way, those tears in your parent’s eyes are heartwarming.
First Look with Wedding Party!
You spend the morning getting ready together in cute rompers or matching robes – yes! I LOVE taking getting ready photos. When it’s time for you to put on your dress, one of my favourite things to do is a dress reveal. Your wedding party has likely seen your wedding dress / attire before, but seeing it all come together? It’s always a WOW moment. You may need a makeup touch up afterwords.
The First Kiss Wedding Photo
Okay, I already told you some of these would be “standard” but they don’t get any less special. The moment the officiant announces that the wedding couple can seal the deal with a kiss, you see pure love and excitement. It’s amazing every single time.Â
The Recessional – Walking Down the Aisle After the Ceremony
A lot of times, couples can’t wait to see the photos of their partner when they first see each other walking down the aisle. And those are amazing photos, no doubt, but some of my favourites are when then wedding couple walks down the aisle together as newlyweds. It’s so sweet watching them walk the aisle together, often a mix of celebrating and tearing up as they lock eyes with their closest family and friends.
Another one of my favourites during the ceremony that doesn’t get the attention it deserves? The parents of the wedding couple looking at them during the ceremony. These photos WARM MY HEART.Â
The wedding couple dancing with their guests
No words required. I want you to remember the fun moments with your guests, almost as much as the romantic one’s with your new spouse!
The speeches
Capturing photos of the speeches (and your guests reaction to them!) are some of my favourite moments. I have been an Edmonton wedding photographer for a few years now, but listening to the couples’ thank you speech and the wedding party and their parents gush over the newlyweds is guaranteed to give me all the feelings every single time.
Wedding Couple & Wedding Party Photos Musts!
Can I be honest? I think some of the more cheesy poses are super cute and will remind you how much fun you had on your wedding day. It’s so nice to pepper in some pure joy photos with some of the more romantic ones (like when the groom kisses his bride’s shoulder or forehead and you feel like your heart is going to explode). When you look back on your wedding day, you are going to want to remember it ALL. Instead of sticking to one style of portraits, it’s nice to get a mix on your wedding day.
Planning your wedding day photography?
I love going over a must-have list, and timeline with each and every couple individually. I’ve narrowed it down to just a few favourite moments but there are SO MANY MORE. Don’t be afraid to ask your wedding photographer for advice on planning out your timeline or family portraits – we have done this before. For more information about my wedding photography packages, check out this link here. Ready to book (or have more questions?), fill out the form right here and I will get back to you right away.
