I'm Katie, your local Edmonton and area wedding photographer. I help couples feel like themselves on their wedding day, in the midst of a busy schedule I take couples away for a few minutes to relax, be close to each other and make magic that you can print out and remember forever.
I am thrilled to finally be sharing this stunning summer campground wedding by Pigeon Lake on the blog! Liz and Daniel, who love hiking and camping any chance they get together, were perfectly suited for a campground wedding! They’re big into nature – they even tend a veggie patch in their community garden (truly a couple after my own heart – because same!) – and I couldn’t have been more excited for their wedding day! They’re two peas in a pod! Today, I’m sharing all the outdoor vibes and behind the scenes into the magic that was their wedding day!
A Little of Their Love Story
Did you know that Liz and Daniel’s story started a decade before their first official date? It all began on the very first day of Grade 9 – quite unexpected, right? From that moment on, their love story unfolded beautifully. And then, on January 16, 2019 – the exact anniversary of their first date – Dan orchestrated a magical evening at the Winspear. Complete with a delightful dinner and mouthwatering cocktails, it was a night to remember. Despite the bone-chilling cold that Edmonton served up, Dan braved a snowy bank, got down on one knee, and with a heart full of hope, he asked Liz the all-important question. Without hesitation, she said yes, and off they ran, eager to begin the next chapter of their extraordinary journey together (and of course – eager to get out of the cold!). Now, three years later we were celebrating their wedding day!
Wedding Portraits Before the Wedding
Are you considering a unique wedding timeline? As a wedding photographer, I appreciate how more and more couples are opting for a first look and taking the bulk of their portraits before the ceremony even begins. Not only does this approach feel more relaxed, but it also allows you to remain present during your ceremony without worrying about what comes next.
And just a PSA: if you’re deciding what color palette to choose for your summer wedding, I was obsessed with Liz and Daniel’s navy and sunflower-inspired theme. Their wedding party looked stunning amidst the gorgeous natural backdrop of their campground venue.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony
Liz and Daniel’s wedding was held at a beautiful campground with a stunning outdoor Chapel ceremony space. Surrounded by nature, the couple said their vows in front of family and friends with the warm sun shining down on them. To keep everyone present in the moment, they kindly requested guests to turn off their cellphones, creating an unplugged ceremony. As a wedding photographer, I absolutely adore these special moments when everyone can be fully present to experience the love and magic of a wedding day!
Charming Campground Lodge Wedding Reception
The wedding ceremony was simply magical, but it got even better as guests dined and danced the night away in the rustic campground lodge. As the sun started to set, I managed to steal Liz and Daniel away from the festivities for a few golden hour shots by the glistening lake nearby. The calm of the water and the stunning natural light made for the most breathtaking photographs. I would LOVE to photograph more weddings likes this one!
To top it all off, we even managed to gather the entire 100 guests for a group photo outside. It was an incredible moment that captured the love and joy shared by all of their family and friends. Liz and Daniel wanted their wedding to feel like a big celebration and boy DID IT EVER. I was elated to be celebrating with them!
