Hey friends! I am so glad you stumbled across my collection of Edmonton engagement photos inspiration today! Engagement photoshoots are one of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer! It’s such a beautiful time to be able to connect with the couple before their big day. During an engagement session, I get to hear about their love story and help bring it to life in photos. This allows us all to have a common language when it comes time for the wedding day.
If you’ve never had professional photos taken before, having engagement photos taken is the perfect time to get used to being in front of the camera. I promise I’ll get you feeling comfortable! Want to connect and book your engagement photos? Reach out here and let’s book your engagement photos! Want to start looking for Edmonton engagement photo inspiration? I would love for you to DM me ideas on the ‘gram if we aren’t hanging out there already.
Engagement Photography in Edmonton, Alberta
Now, without further ado, let’s get started with (a few of) my favourite Edmonton engagement photos! Now truth be told, I did make an exception for a few super sweet couples that just had “couple photos” and anniversary photos taken that are not technically engagement photos. BUT they will still give you some pose ideas and some serious engagement photo inspiration. If you hire me to be your Edmonton engagement photographer, I seriously hope we can leave frolicking on the table.
Planning Your Engagement Photos
First, your engagement photos don’t need a lot of planning. Sometimes they just need a field. Honestly, Alberta field’s can make a perfect neutral backdrop for couples’ photos!
And just an FYI, I absolutely love the way that rompers photograph. If you are looking for the answer to “what to wear to my engagement photo session”, and I know you are, I collected some more advice for you here. But really, I just want you to be comfortable! Nothing ruins a photo more than looking uncomfortable, and I promise to do my best to make you laugh and relax. It’s kind of my thing. I am okay with being a little weird for the sake of a photo.
Oh yeah – and the best engagement photos include some sort of fun activity too! I recommend popping champagne or combining your photo shoot with a picnic!
Choosing a location for your engagement photos in Edmonton
I personally love capturing engagement photos in the natural areas around Edmonton, like Mill Creek Ravine. As a plant enthusiast (I have around 50 plants at home!), combining my passions by venturing into nature for photos is the best. The majestic backdrop of towering trees adds such a dramatic touch that enhances the whole experience in the best way. Honestly, when it comes to picking a spot for engagement photos in Edmonton and nearby areas, there are so many breathtaking outdoor spaces to choose from. And with your willingness to explore my creative ideas, we can make truly magical moments anywhere we go. Just tell me your vision and I will handle the rest!
Winter Engagement Photos in Edmonton
Jumping back to the topic of engagement photos with a bit of drama, I have to admit that I have a secret love for capturing winter engagement photos too! Approximately 40% of engagements take place between December and March, which is UNDENIABLY the winter season here in Alberta. So, if you find yourself reading this recently engaged in the winter, don’t feel like you have to wait for summer to take your engagement photos! The ethereal snowy backdrop can create an absolutely breathtaking setting to document this next chapter in your life.
Having an At Home Engagement Session
Not a fan of the cold (or rainy) unpredictable Alberta weather? Don’t worry! Taking your engagement photos at home can be a wonderful and meaningful choice. Not only does it allow you to escape the weather, but it also provides a unique opportunity to showcase your personal space. Home is where the heart is, and capturing your love in a familiar and intimate setting can truly make your engagement photos special. Embrace the comfort, charm, and great lighting of your own home for a truly heartfelt and personal photo session. I promise you don’t need the perfect instagrammable home to make this work!
Plus, if you are very lucky, you might even get a surprise family member willing to join in! Which is ALWAYS welcome by the way. I love when my couples include their fur babies in their engagement photos! This is true whether you book your engagement photos at your home or choose to have an outdoor engagement location. I’m available for all the kitty and puppy snuggles!
Nervous about getting in front of a camera for your engagement photos?
I would love to tell you that you don’t need to be (it’s my job to help make you comfortable) but my last tip for you is to plan an activity around your engagement photos to take the pressure off. This can be something as simple as a champagne pop! I’ve just found it helps couples take their mind off the photos for a second and have fun with one another – which is ultimately what I want for you!
