Let’s Make Wedding Planning More Fun!
If you are new around here, let me quickly say hi. I am Katie – a wedding photographer in Edmonton, Alberta. I love talking about life, love, and lattes and yes, I love alliteration. Photographing weddings is one of my life callings. I would be honoured to document moments that matter for you and yours. If you want more information on hiring me for your wedding day (I would be honoured to third wheel it with you), please contact me here. Until then, let’s talk about ways to make wedding planning more fun!
1. Go for a picnic
Few wedding tasks can’t be made more fun with a picnic. Picnics’ can be a great place to brainstorm your wedding guest list or even start to work on your seating chart. Plan your day-of timeline while enjoying sandwiches and fresh air.
2. Have a movie night in
You can alternate with each person picking a different movie. A movie night is a great date night idea to complete wedding tasks that don’t need your undivided attention. Assembling wedding invitations? Building wedding favours? Some DIY decor? Instead of leaving these tasks on your never-ending to-do list, I would love to encourage you to be intentional and create a movie date night around them.
3. Have a campfire and roast marshmallows
If you don’t have a fire pit, there’s usually some around the city! Here in Edmonton, Capilano park has raised little fire ovens you can use. It might just be me, but this could be the romantic setting you need to choose your first dance songs or choose your ceremony readings. During the daytime? Test out some lawn games that you are considering for your backyard reception.
4. Try a new café
Who doesn’t love a sip and snuggle? Hey, I warned you – I love alliterations almost more than life. Sometimes a change of scenery is all that you need to find fresh inspiration. A new cafe is the perfect place to show him your redesigned Pinterest board or meet your wedding planner. Some cafes even have board games for after “the work” is done. Plus, who doesn’t love a good London Fog Latte?
5. Make it a beach day
Hopefully, there is a beach relatively close to you! Reasonable beaches are about 1-2 hours away from Edmonton- definitely day trip worthy. I recommend working on your wedding day playlist while jamming out on the road trip there!
6. Cook dinner at home together before pulling out the wedding binder.
This is one of our favourite date nights. Seriously – we make a whole event out of it and go buy groceries together and pick out a new wine to try (although now we have our favourites so we experiment less). We try a new recipe and enjoy each course together complete with music, candles. To spice it up, we also like to make these nights themed and choose recipes all from one specific region. After dinner, you can discuss seating charts & invitation designs.
BONUS: Make wedding planning more fun by combining any of these with Engagement Photos
In case you didn’t realize, a few of these also make great engagement photo ideas. If this is something you have on your to-do list, I include engagement photos in all of my wedding packages or you can contact me and we can book them separately – get to know each other first. I’m up for just about anything to make wedding planning more fun. And, I love this great city of ours.
