I'm Katie, your local Edmonton and area wedding photographer. I help couples feel like themselves on their wedding day, in the midst of a busy schedule I take couples away for a few minutes to relax, be close to each other and make magic that you can print out and remember forever.
I’m elated to share Lydia-Ann and Matt’s wedding at the Matrix Hotel in Edmonton with you through the blog today. Being musicians, they crossed paths in Edmonton’s music circle. During their day, there were treasured and fun moments, like quickly popping into the Fringe festival and capturing fun wedding portraits atop the High Level Bridge Streetcar. If you’re fantasizing about a romantic AND playful wedding in Edmonton, brace yourself for plenty of inspiration here! If you’re on the lookout for a wedding photographer, drop me a message as I am already booking for 2024. I would love to learn more!
Getting Ready at the Matrix Hotel
I met Lydia-Ann at the Matrix Hotel to take her getting-ready portraits. Meanwhile, Matt readied himself at their home on the south side (this is why I almost always recommend couples add a second photographer to their wedding photography package!). As a wedding photographer, I must admit that I love these moments. The excitement and anticipation in the air are infectious, and it’s an opportunity to capture the candid, unscripted moments that truly make the wedding morning special.
It also gives me a chance to snap photos of any details you might have (like an invitation suite, your bouquet, or your gorgeous engagement and wedding rings). Take Lydia-Ann’s stunning sapphire ring, for instance! I absolutely LOVED capturing photos of the way it sparkled in all its uniqueness.
A Bride’s First Look with Her Father
Lydia-Ann’s father was beaming when he saw her for the first time, and she was glowing with excitement. It was a magical moment. As a wedding photographer, it’s always incredibly special to witness these moments of pure joy and emotion. Lydia-Ann’s look of adoration towards her dad made all the hard work that goes into planning a wedding worth it. I can’t help but get emotional!
A Sweet First Look, Followed by an Emotional Wedding Ceremony
It’s impossible to be in the presence of Lydia-Ann and Matt and not feel the love radiating between them! They met outside the church for a private first look, against the perfect brick wall backdrop. As they headed inside, their wedding ceremony was both emotional and sweet. After the ceremony, they were all smiles, grinning from ear to ear as they celebrated with family and friends outside the church. It was a true joy to witness (and photograph!).
Fun + Unique Outdoor Wedding Photos
After the beautiful ceremony, Lydia-Ann and Matt had no desire to spend hours posing for stiff photos that didn’t capture their joy. As their photographer, I was ready to embrace their wishes and create something special. We headed over to Strathcona Farmer’s Market for the Fringe Festival’s colorful atmosphere, where the couple could truly relax and be themselves. Then, we stopped to enjoy our treats and take a few impromptu snapshots before heading to the High Level Streetcar. The iconic car added a unique flair to the day, and I was THRILLED to be capturing unconventional wedding photos that I hope they will love for years to come!
Modern Wedding at the Matrix Hotel in Edmonton
Lydia-Ann and Matt chose the Matrix Hotel for their wedding reception because of its beautiful ballroom. With a classic and elegant black and white color palette, they created a timeless atmosphere that was perfect for all the festivities. The night began with sweet toasts from family and friends, followed by the traditional shoe game. Guests were then able to dance the night away as the perfect end to an incredible celebration. If you are considering a wedding at the Matrix hotel, I highly recommend it! You can find a few of my other favorite Edmonton wedding venues here.
