Wedding Detail Shots
This the first round up style post we have done in the blog and to be honest – I am thrilled. Wedding detail shots are a few of my favourites. As much as I love to share all of the information and behind the scenes you need to plan your Edmonton wedding, I think today’s post goes in the “best of” category because I get to feature some of the amazing Edmonton wedding couples I have had a chance to photograph. If you are looking for an Edmonton wedding photographer, you can check out my wedding photography packages here. I would be honoured to be considered!
Edited to add: I recently published a blog post that goes nicely with this one! If you haven’t checked out my “do you really need to create a wedding day shot list” blog post, make sure to check it out!
Hopefully as you take a look at the below detail photos that I think you NEED to have on your wedding day, you are also making note of what you want to bring on your wedding day to have photographed. Lots of times, people forget about stationary. The other thing you don’t want to realize last minute, is that you need to having both wedding rings in the same place, with the ring boxes and other jewelry. These are just a few examples, but the first thing is coming up with what details you really want photographed on your wedding day.
Wedding detail photos you want your wedding photographer to capture on your wedding day
#1 The Perfect Wedding Flat Lay: Shoes, Jewelry, Wedding Invitations and Your Bouquet
I am starting with a big one here. Again, I want to remind you to bring your wedding invitations and extra decor items. A lot of times couples stress about where these detail shots will take place but as a wedding photographer, I can reassure you. We can take detail shots wherever there is light and a nice background. I’ve used counters before and the photos have been just as stunning as a more formal background!
#2 Wedding Rings
Make sure you have your wedding rings cleaned a few days before the wedding so they absolutely sparkle in the photographs. Details are often one of the first shots – even before getting ready photos (because we need to take them before you put the jewelry on, for example). Have these details ready to go (even in a bag or something) and let your photographer make magic with them. Don’t forget about the ring boxes too!
#3 Wedding Invitations
These are photos you have likely seen and thought “I want that” but then the day of you forget to bring them. I always remind my wedding couples but with so many details, it can be easy to forget. Another alternative (or addition!) is having your vows handwritten and having that photographed. These details are so important and definitely something you will want to remember and have photographed!
#4 Wedding Dress Photos / Wedding Couple Attire
We definitely want to get photos of you getting into the dress (and I love a first look with the bride and her bridesmaids!) but before that, make sure to get some photos of the dress hanging! You can take these outside your getting ready photo locations or even at your ceremony location (on the arch!). This is a great time to use those fancy hangers you ordered on etsy too!
#5 Your wedding signs
Now we are on to the decor! You spend a lot of time choosing your wedding day decor, and having wedding photos is one way to help you remember every single detail. These shots also look GREAT in your wedding albums as transition pieces so they are important to have! Make sure you give your photographer a list so that nothing gets missed!
#6 The Ceremony Space Before Guests Arrive
This is one of the reasons why it’s nice to have a second shooter (two wedding photographers on your wedding day). I talk more about that here, but as a quick note: if your wedding photographer is taking getting ready photos up until the ceremony time, they can’t possibly take the photos of your ceremony setup before guests arrive. Your wedding photographer can always help you work out the logistics of your timeline, but these are some things you need to think about! Which is why it is so important to hire an experienced wedding photographer in the first place 🙂
#7 The Seating Chart
Not only is this a great way to remember your guest list (besides the guest book), often times, couples get SO creative with their wedding seating charts (or escort cards – if that’s more your style!). Anything that looks this good, should be photographed.
#8 The Reception Details before Guests Arrive
This is usually possible even if you don’t have a second shooter (unlike the ceremony photos). And so worth it. The reception has all kinds of details that deserve wedding photography – seating charts (as pictured above), or your card box, tablescapes, centrepieces, venue. The list of details go on and on so make sure you have a conversation with your wedding photographer (contact me here if you think I might be a good fit!) about which details are most important.
#9 The Cake
I really don’t think I need to explain how important the cake is right? Luxury wedding planner Andrea Eppolito calls it the “jewelry of the wedding reception” and after many cake tastings, I have to agree.
Wedding detail shots you don’t want to miss!
There you have it, a list of the wedding detail shots you want to make sure you have. Honestly, I LOVED featuring these weddings from my couples’ weddings and styled shoots with other vendors. It was hard not to include about 100 more photos! You can check out more real Alberta wedding photos on my gallery pages here!
