If you are reading this, let me first say CONGRATULATIONS! Preparing for a newborn is such an exciting time. And newborn photos make it even more exciting! I am preparing for my own little bundle of joy arriving mid-December, so right now I am feeling the newborn photography excitement ten-fold. Have you started nesting yet? Is the baby’s room already ready when you are reading this? I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU.
If you are new around here, I’m Katie at Katie Ruegg Photography. Although you can probably tell by my website that I specialize in Edmonton wedding photography, I also love to capture the moments that come AFTER the wedding. Connecting and meeting new people is something I LOVE to do as a natural extrovert (it’s part of what makes me so good at my job!). So I would be lying if I said that after I photograph your wedding, I never want to hear from you again. I want to take your maternity photos, your newborn photos, and your family photos every year.
If you already know you are looking for an Edmonton newborn photographer, you can contact me here and we can book your session!
How far in advance should you plan your newborn photos?
You can start planning as soon as you wish but in order to secure the photographer you want, I recommend booking 2-3 months before you want them done. Usually, this means you are booking them in your second or third trimester! As for the actual “planning” of the newborn photos, I send you a whole list of tips and tricks for making the most out of your newborn photography session after you book. But if you aren’t quite ready to book yet but you still want to start the planning process (I get it), you can check out this post here.
Do you want to do a Fresh 48 or a Lifestyle Newborn Photography Session?
Newborn photos are typically taken in the first two months of giving birth, but some couples choose to book a Fresh 48 session – which happens within 48 hours of giving birth. Basically – within a day of coming home from the hospital! For Fresh 48 sessions, you can’t book an exact session date for obvious reasons! Usually what we end up booking is a two-week window where the photographer is “on call” within a 24-hour window. But of course, like anything with newborns, we have to be flexible!
With newborn photos, it is easier to schedule a more tentative date if you want photos in the first couple of months. A lot of times, we want photos not only of your newborn but your whole family unit (whatever that looks like for you!). So if your partner is working, we can schedule a time around that and of course, be flexible if things need to change.
Are you ready to book your Edmonton newborn photography?
I would be absolutely honored to be considered. I am currently accepting newborn photography bookings for April 2021 and beyond. Remember, when you are planning your newborn photos, it’s never too early to get in touch. Congratulations again!
