Planning Proposal Photos – Does it still count as alliteration if technically photos has a different sound? Asking for a friend.

If you are new around here, I am Katie, and Edmonton wedding photographer photographing wedding couples all over Alberta. And this post features something really special: A PROPOSAL at the Enjoy Lights Festival. It was so much fun sneaking around and the couple was adorable (I’m a photographer – I have the evidence).

Don’t worry, I will always definitely get the ring photo. Throughout my time as your photographer, I would love to capture your proposal, engagement, wedding day photos, and even newborn photos if that is the plan ;). But let’s start at the beginning. Planning Proposal Photos. 

 

 

Choosing a Proposal Location

In retrospect, the festival was probably a bit too busy for me to catch the ideal photo opportunity. We want to choose a location busy enough that I (the proposal photographer) can blend in without suspicion, but not SO busy that people are moving around constantly and unknowingly getting in the way.

 

 

Choose a dreamy background.

The Enjoy Lights Festival definitely was one of the dreamiest places I have taken couples photos in Edmonton (technically St. Albert). As a photographer, I always dream of places with lots of light. This place definitely over-delivered. On top of being super unique (which I also love), there was definitely no shortage of lighting.

Basically what I am saying, is do your photographer a huge favour when you are choosing your proposal location. Choose a spot with lots of light.

 

 

Come prepared with some “after the proposal” photo ideas.

I always have a bunch of ideas off my sleeve but if you want something specific, no couples shine as brightly as when they just get engaged (ok.. maybe their wedding day). After proposal photos, you may want to get a few couple shots taken. Find a location that can accommodate that or ask your photographer to help you choose a location!

 

 

PRO TIP: Tell your significant other you want to get couples photos done, and propose mid-shoot.

Okay, depending on your relationship, this might be too much of a giveaway. But this idea also lets your significant other get dressed up for the occasion. Nothing worse than getting perfect proposal photos taken, and not wanting to share them on social media (even though I am sure you look fantastic no matter what #wokeuplikethis).
