I'm Katie, your local Edmonton and area wedding photographer. I help couples feel like themselves on their wedding day, in the midst of a busy schedule I take couples away for a few minutes to relax, be close to each other and make magic that you can print out and remember forever.
Manisha and Rob’s Indian wedding was an absolute highlight for me as a wedding photographer. I’ve known Manisha since elementary school, and I was beyond honored when she hired me to capture her wedding. It felt extra special to me. The fusion of Hindu and western elements made their wedding truly unique and special. It was a three-day celebration, filled with vibrant colors, elegance, and joy.
The festivities began on Thursday and continued through Friday and Saturday, with each day bringing new and exciting events. From the traditional ceremonies to the lively dances and heartfelt speeches, every moment was filled with love and happiness. I can’t wait to share it with you all today!
A Traditional Haldi Ceremony
Manisha and Rob’s wedding festivities kicked off with a beautiful Haldi Ceremony that is an integral tradition of any Indian wedding. In case you haven’t been lucky to attend one yet, it is an auspicious occasion involving the application of a special paste made from turmeric that is applied to the bride and groom by their family members and close friends. The paste is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil energies, giving the couple divine protection as they embark on their life together. Additionally, it symbolizes the connection between two souls uniting in love and blessing the couple before the main wedding ceremony. It was such a special tradition to be able to witness.
Next, we had their Mehndi Party!
Later that evening, we had their Mehndi Party. I captured moments of joy as Manisha and her guests received intricate Henna art designs on their hands and feet. The women wore brightly colored saris, the room was filled with vibrant decorations, and there were delicious snacks to enjoy. It was a memorable evening that I will never forget! Everyone looked GORGEOUS.
Chura Ceremony
On Friday, the day began with a Chura ceremony. The ceremony includes adorning the bride and groom’s wrists with colorful bracelets that signify the couple’s new bond. The bride and groom then exchange garlands of flowers, which symbolize mutual respect and admiration. To complete the ceremony, family members give their blessings to the newlyweds by pouring holy water over them. It is believed that this tradition brings good luck to the couple’s marriage. For Manisha and Rob, it was an incredible afternoon with so much joy and love surrounding them. I couldn’t have been happier to be a witness.
A Memorable Sangeet
On Friday evening, we had the Sangeet. Manisha and Rob were surrounded by friends and family who came together to shower them with love. The energy was palpable as everyone celebrated the couple’s upcoming nuptials. There was music, dancing, and laughter that filled the room all night long. Everyone was so happy for Manisha and Rob and they showed nothing but pure joy as they joined in on the festivities and reveled in each other’s presence. It was one of my favorite events of the weekend – overflowing with emotion and heartfelt love!
A Fusion Wedding Day
The sun was shining, and everyone was beaming with excitement as the couple prepared to say “I do.” After two days of festivities and celebration, it was finally time for their wedding day. As family and friends filled the lawns and gardens surrounding the venue, both sides of the family eagerly watched as Manisha and Rob were officially pronounced “married”. They created something truly special that was entirely their own, incorporating both of their backgrounds to have a wedding day filled with Western and Indian elements. I could not get enough. From their gorgeous outdoor Hindu ceremony to their indoor ballroom reception (that was SO elegant!), it was the most incredible day.
Edmonton Engagement Photos
Their wedding day was absolutely incredible and filled with so many moments that I will never forget. To finish off this feature (of this INCREDIBLE couple!), I want to share just a few of their engagement photos we had taken the year earlier. I love when my couples bring their dogs and these photos were some of my favourites.
